"The Way Things Ought To Be" - over ten years later
Thu Jul 06, 2006 at 10:20:11 PM PDT
While I've been working on moving out of my apartment, I was going through boxes of stuff I've kept around for years and never look in anymore. Among the things I found was a college paper I did on Rush Limbaugh's book "The Way Things Ought To Be" for a Philosophy - Reasoning and Critical Thinking class. While writing this paper, I realized that it would have impact on the Political Science instruction I was also enrolled in during that semester, so I submitted it to both classes, with an addendum on the Political Science copy as to the reason why I chose to do that.
I read it again tonight and was amazed at what I wrote over ten years ago (actually almost 13 years). I was so astonished by the summary that I thought I should present it here, and let you read what I predicted so long ago.
Please excuse my formatting skills, this was typewritten in outline form, and it's much harder to achieve in editing.
I present this paper over the jump:
Between a Rock and a Hard Place

I've had an interesting experience in the last three days. As a liberal who works for a large corporation, in management of all places, I've recently been put to a test.

Apparently God likes Domino's Pizza
Thu Jun 30, 2005 at 06:36:08 AM PDT
Yesterday I became aware of a situation that is happening in my backyard and I need to tell you all about it.
Up the road about five miles from where I live is a college called "Ave Maria University". It was founded by Tom Monaghan, the Domino's Pizza founder.
I've been aware of the university for some time now, and have heard about a planned unit development that is in the planning stages, but yesterday I got the full rundown on what this is all about.

AARP answers GOP on Social Security
Mon Mar 28, 2005 at 01:57:14 PM PDT
Since I do keep my news on almost constantly to keep an eye on the BS going on in our country, I've been subjected to the recent ad (not sure who is sponsoring it, but I'm sure they are GOP members) that states Democrats have no ideas to fix Social Security and uses a stopwatch with 10 seconds of silence while the ad audience is asked to think of ideas Democrats have come up with.
For several days that ad was airing and there was no Democratic response, until now, with the ad I just saw from AARP.
Update [2005-3-28 17:56:36 by 2care4others]: Just saw the GOP ad again while talking to my husband as he walked in the door. It is paid for by PFA Voter Fund
Language is a Dead Giveaway

While watching CNN this morning, while they were reporting on the Terri Schiavo case, Carol Costello, CNN's Daybreak anchor slipped up and used a term I have not heard used by a television anchor previously.
In tying in the Terri Schiavo conversation to the left-wing and right-wing supporters and the direction this fight is taking, Ms. Costello referred to the Pro-Choice movement as the "Pro-Abortion" movement.
Update [2005-3-25 10:51:55 by 2care4others]: A few people questioned the validity of the term Pro-Abortion being used on the program. I went and looked up the transcript which I have referenced below in a blockquote and a link to the transcript. She DID say Pro-Abortion.

CNN is reporting what appears to be the opportunity for a new round of wingnuts to appear sometime soon on our radar. ::heads up::
I've been brainstorming today
Mon Mar 21, 2005 at 08:06:34 PM PDT
Some thoughts on how to hem our party members on the hill back into line, and organize efforts to be heard:
The time has come for us to get off of duffs and do more than post here at Kos day in and day out. The time has come that we've got to take a stand and get our ducks in a row, or else we're going to be toast.
I'm a pacifist, and for me to say that, you know it's gotta be true; but I'm not talking violence here, I'm talking about serious organizing efforts.
America is Sinking
Thu Mar 03, 2005 at 10:14:54 PM PDT
Isn't it appropriate that while our once great nation is sinking into the miry pits of facism, the USS America will soon be sunk at the bottom of the great Atlantic.
Yes, that's right folks, you heard me right, America is sinking, and while being sunk, it's going to cost 22 million dollars to pay for this operation. Sound familiar?
